Archi, skal vi ik' blive enige om at der er forskellige klasser mht. BB. Samtidig skal du jo lige henholde dig til at mange af dem som stiller op er blevet udviklet gennem krudt.. Og så er træningsformen ikke altid afgørende for resultatet.. Kender ikke fyren og hans træningsbaggrund, men kan også finde andre som netop intet er nået på høje gentagelser og mange som er nået lige så langt ved få reps..
Mht. TUT, så ja det har da en betydning, men vil du påstå at de samme folk generelt træner anderledes ved 8reps som ved 20. Tror ikke TUT ændres, men derimod intensiteten.. Så det har reelt ingen indflydelse medmindre man specifikt fokuserer på det.. Den holder ikke generelt.. Hvis der skal stilles nogle generelle krav for gain op, så vil jeg hellere definere dem som jeg fik svar på af ovennævnte kilde tidligere idag:
Any form of progression in the nature of the load that forces the body to adapt potentially increases muscle mass. This could mean:
1. increasing the average weight lifted on each repetition... for example if you perform the following for the bench press 1 x 8 with 120kg, 2 x 6 with 130kg and 1 x 4 with 140kg you lifted an average weight of 128kg per rep... if the week after you perform 1 x 8 with 130kg, 2 x 6 with 135kg and 1 x 4 with 140kg the average would be 134kg *even though your mx weight (140kg) stayed the same.
2. increase the top weight used. If your top set goes from 4 x 140kg to 4 x 145kg there is a progression, even if the average weight of the workout stayed the same.
3. increase the number of reps without lowering the average weight... simply put if you can perform a few more reps without having to lower the weight used, there is a progression. Adding volume but resorting to a significant decrease in the average weight lifted *might not* represent a progression.
4. increase the number of sets for an exercise/muscle group without having to lower the intensity might also puts more stress on your body which could stimulate more adaptation. HOWEVER ... performing more sets is like working overtime: it can leads to a better pay over a short period of time, but if used in excess it could cause too much fatigue which would result in you not being able to work as much in the future = less pay over the long run.
5. increase the density of the workout without having to significantly reduce the average weight lifted. If you are able to perform more physical work per unit of time (by reducing rest intervals without reducing the load) the session is harder because you have to recruit more muscle fibers since the ones primarily used cannot fully recover from set to set.
6. increase the eccentric stress during an exercise. If the other loading parameters (sets, reps, weight, density) stay the same, you can still increase the difficulty of the workout by lowering the weight more slowly.
7. use advanced methods such as supersets, drop sets, rest/pause, etc. These methods also increase the difficulty of the workout. But overdoing them might lead to CNS overload and fatigue over time.
8. switch to more demanding exercises
The bottom line is that AS LONG AS YOU INCREASE THE DEMANDS ON YOUR BODY *WITHOUT EXCEEDING ITS RECOVERY CAPACITIES* YOU WILL STIMULATE PROGRESS.
So yes, increasing the amount of work being performed COULD stimulate progress AS LONG AS IT CONSTITUTES AN INCREASE IN THE DEMANDS OF THE WORKOUT... AND THAT IT DOESN'T EXCEED YOUR RECOVERY CAPACITIES.
a) doing more volume generally also means lowering the average weight lifted. Doing more volume = progression; lowering the average weight = regression. For added volume to be beneficial its benefit must surpass the downside of the reduction in the average weight used.
b) your body has a limited capacity to recover from physical stress. If simply doing more and more work was the magical solution then we would simply have to do 50 sets per muscle and we'd all be Mr.Olympia! Doesn't work that way. If the volume is higher than what you can tolerate and recover optimally from, than it will not lead to progression.
